Pam's Tribute Wall on Wilks' site included the following:

"One of the best things I ever did in Kiwanis was to hire Pam as the District Secretary!!! She was instrumental in helping the district and me to become "Distinguished"...an honor afforded to only 5 Governors in 95 years! Pam gave her heart and soul, and eventually her health, to Kiwanis. She was one of the best Secretaries that Kiwanis has ever had.....at both the District and the International level!     Mary Villalba, Distinguished Governor, Rocky Mountain District Kiwanis, 2003-2004"

"An automatic hug every time we saw each other. Pam was dedicated, sweet, loving, and supported Kiwanis awesomely. God is getting special hugs right now and forever!"

I met Pam during a summer theatre class at BHS in 1965. She befriended me at once and with Mark Foos encouraged me to transfer to BHS from West to be in the drama program. With the locker shortage that fall, Pam invited me to share hers. We were both so busy,  we went our own ways and lost touch, only to meet again as I was finishing college. Pam had married and had twins; she and her husband had completely remodeled a home in the historic district. She seemed so happy. But, we again went our separate ways and I heard nothing of her until the other day when I read here that she had passed away. The Pam I knew was a special friend, whose memory I cherish.

Pam's mom opened the door of their home to a bunch of us neighborhood kids, and that bunch grew to include other kids from school, or other friends.  Pam's mom married Dick S. which eventually led them to a larger home on Poly Drive.  We had their trust and invitation to use their basement for gathering--just walk in whether they were home, or not. For the most part, we were well-behaved as we enjoyed a case of soda pop slid onto the basement floor by Dick S. Their kindness and trust were nice to have.  A meeting place for socialization as a young teen-ager was a gold mine to us.  Pam was a serious roller skater with her skate partner Craig B.  Oh, those years went by and the kids found different veins of gold to pursue.

If I recall correctly, there were several of us who watched the fist American Space Walk with Dick at the Slayton house.  Only one of many memories emanating from that "shelter".  I wonder if my kids had a place a like that to "hang".  I hope so, but I'll probably never know.
