Kerry Hoffman

Kerry Hoffman

Kerry Hoffman of Billings. and formerly a longtime Williston ND resident, passed away erly Sunday morning, December 18, 2022, in his home in Billings.  A funeral will be held at 2 pm Tuesday, January 3 at Michellotti-Sawyers Mortuary, 1001 Alderson Avenue, Billings.

Kerry was born to Jack and Florence Uerling Hoffman in Miles City, along with his twin brother, Terry, on Nov. 21, 1947. Kerry was raised in Billings, attending several elementary schools, and graduating from Billings Senior with the class of '66.  He attended the University of Montana for a short time, then entered the service in 1969 and served two years before being honorably discharged.

At the end of his tour of duty he returned to Billings where he drove truck for his dad and was a hod carrier for a construction business.  In 1977 he started as an independent landman in Plentywood and continued that line of work until retirement.  The lifelong friendships that were made along that journey were incredibly special to him.

Kerry met his beloved wife in 1982 and they were married in May of 1983.  They were blessed with three daughters, Kacie, Dana and Darcy, who adored their dad.  Kerry's life was his family and he loved spending time with his wife and three girls.  As he grew older, he loved being a grandparent to seven grandchildren.

Kerry also loved working as a landman, and did so for 40 years; he never seemed to completely retire.  In his free time he enjoyed fishing on Lake Sakakawea and made many wonderful memories with family and friends, boating and camping.  Kerry enjoyed golfing but within the last ten years absolutely loved four wheeling in the mountains in Montana; it was his "happy place."  Kerry always loved a good adventure.

Kerry was honest, smart, incredibly hardworking, loving and had a great smile and laugh that will be missed for the rest of our days without him.

He belonged to the Elks Lodge, the American Legion, and the American Association of Landmen-AALP.

Kerry is survived by his beloved wife Carol; their daughters, Kacie Hoffman (Jeremy Crews), grandchildren Collin and Natalie of Billings; Darcy Olsen (Skye), grandchilcren Max, Likah, and River; Dana Michelson (David), grandchikren Myles and Jack, all of Williston; his sister Vicki Sticka of Billings, he nephew Kerry Sticka (Kendra), of Anchorage, Alaska; and his grand-nephew Tanner and great-neice Jordan.

Kerry was preceded in death by his parents and his brother Terry Hoffman.  Please cinsider a memorial in Kerry's name to RiverStone Hospice, Billiongs, as they are angels on earth to help cre for our loved ones.

I remember recess at Highland School with Kerry, his brother Terry and Gary Vincilent. We raced all over the playground. I always thought I was pretty fast, but any races would have Gary 1st, Kerry and Terry 2nd and me bringing up the rear. He was a good friend.

Prayers for the family. Tj

Seeing Kerry at our 50th Reunion was wonderful, even though I learned at the same time of Terry's passing.  I knew both the twins, but I connected more with Kerry...he had a special happy spirit.  Now here's a story: When we were sophomores Kerry and I helped each other out; he helped me with geometery and I helped him with english. I struggled with geometry and Kerry wasn't keen on writing essays in english. So, maybe three or four times I wrote a paper for him and he did my geometry homework.  The next day we'd meet and exchange our secret strategies.  At the moment of handoff, we'd smile at each other and say "cooperate and graduate!"  He still had that special happy spirit at our 50th.  Now he's back in the saddle again...with his brother...riders in the sky.  Happy to have known them both.

As I recall, Kerry and Terry lived for awhile in the college subdivision not far from my old friend Greg Gifford and we would get together often to terrorize the neighborhood or play street sports.  We got together again briefly while he attended the Uof M, teaming up for ping pong doubles in the basement of the freshman dorm.  As others have said, he was a great guy, as was his brother Terry.  Many fond memories.

I am sorry to learn about Kerry.  He and Terry were such a special part of our class, especially as close to identical twins, although I always could tell them apart.  Kerry was generous, friendly, and always good to be around.  I'm sure it is a blessing to be reunited with his twin, but of course his family must miss him very much.  Rest in peace, old friend.
