Leigh R. Dotson, a local CPA, died suddenly Saturday, July 24, 2004, of an apparent heart attack while doing some painting in his back yard. 

Leigh was born Nov. 9, 1947 in Billings to Mabel "Babe" Engle and the late Roy Dotson. Leigh attended Highland Elementary, Lincoln Jr. High School and graduated from Billings Senior High School in 1966. He went to Eastern Montana College for two years before transferring to the University of Montana in Missoula where he graduated. He was a member of the Sigma Nu fraternity.

After his graduation, he went to Greenville, S.C. where his sister lived and worked two years for Daniel Construction as an auditor. While there, he attended Clemson Furman University where he graduated with a MBA in 1976. Leigh returned to Montana where he worked for the Montana Power Co. for two years before returning to Billings. In Billings, he worked for MT States Petroleum while pursuing his CPA. Leigh became a CPA in 1979 and started his own practice at 1505 Ave. D, which he still was involved in at the time of his death.

Leigh was a member of the DeMolay during his teens and a member of the Elks for 29 years.

Leigh will be greatly missed by his family, friends and his clients.

Leigh is survived by his mother, Mabel "Babe" Engle; his sister, Janne Hayden; and his brother-in-law, Bill Hayden, all of Billings. He is also survived by his two nephews, Jason (Leigh) Watson of Seattle and Brian Watson and his children, Cameron, and Grace of Billings; his step-grandma, Lillian Overend of Roundup. Leigh also is survived by his four precious Bulldogs, Jake, Jasmine, Toby and Taffee; and his mother's Pug, Alfe.

Funeral Services will be 10 a.m. Friday, July 30 at Michelotti-Sawyers Mortuary. Interment will follow at Yellowstone Valley Memorial Park.

Leigh, Dave Bick and I spent a lot of time together in high school.  He was quiet at times, but had a great dry sense of humor.  I was deeply saddened to hear of his passing a number of years ago.
