Jim and I lived in the same area of Billings while young.  I recall walking to Senior High on a snowy (knee-high?) cold (-20?) morning because my car was a non-starter.  Jim pulled-up by the curb over by North 31st Street and said "hop in."  Jim, being Jim the mechanic, was driving some ancient Dodge which ran as smooth as a chalkboard on a Monday morning.  And that heater was melting the snow in my standard oxfords in a matter of seconds!  Into our 20's, we were friends and I did see Jim a couple times while he lived in Laurel, more recent.  Carol and I stopped one day on our way home from McLeod, where we recreate, and we learned then that Jim had died in Columbus at the nursing home. He had been fighting cancer for a few years.  Jim died Jan.12, 2014.  Jim was a Navy veteran.  Keith Olson served with Jim on the same ship for a time.  Of all the cars Jim had, there was a '37 Ford all done to the max which we bugged around in while I was home on leave and Jim was fixin' to go away for active duty in the summer of 1968.  That was awesome. After his Navy 2-year duty, Jim always said that selling that '37 just before his ship sailed was a regret; saying the picturesque rod had probably gone to California.
